Cavan is a county of lakes and drumlins on the border with Fermanagh, Monaghan, Leitrim, Longford, Westmeath and Meath, and LocalJams holds 46 venues for it. The Townhall Arts Centre in Cavan town is the place for traditional music: its October programme includes The Blackwater Ceili Band, The Pipers Cross Ceili Band and the Ed Reavy International Fiddler of the Year competition, whose under-18 and over-18 finals also appear at Cavan Town Hall. The Imperial Bar & Nightclub on Main Street covers late nights, and the Ramor Arts Centre in Virginia has John Spillane and the Esposito Quartet listed.
Sessions are a genuine feature here. Blessings Bar on Town Hall Street lists a Trad Session every Thursday at 9.30pm, and the Farnham Arms Hotel a Sunday afternoon session at 3pm, so the week in Cavan town has traditional music at both ends.
