Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
LocalJams (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the LocalJams website at localjams.live and the LocalJams mobile applications for iOS and Android. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

2. Data we collect
Email address
We collect your email address when you create an account. It is used solely for authentication (sign-in, password reset, email verification) and to identify your account. Your email address is linked to your account and is never used for advertising targeting.
Approximate location
On mobile devices, with your permission, we access your device's coarse location (county-level precision) to show you gigs near you. This data is used only within the app to power the “Near You” feature; it is not stored on our servers, not linked to your account, and is not used for tracking or advertising.
Profile information (optional)
If you create an artist or venue profile you may optionally provide a display name, biography, profile picture, county, and links to social media accounts (Instagram, Spotify, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, website). This information is publicly visible on your profile page.
Advertising identifier
The LocalJams mobile apps use Google AdMob to display ads to users on the free plan. On iOS, if you grant permission via the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt, AdMob may access your device's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) to show you personalised ads. If you decline, AdMob shows non-personalised ads. On Android, AdMob may use the Android Advertising ID for a similar purpose. Neither identifier is linked to your LocalJams account. You can change your preference at any time in your device Settings. Users who subscribe to the ad-free plan do not see ads and AdMob is not loaded for those users.
Feedback submissions
If you submit feedback through the app, we collect the message text and the category you selected. Feedback is associated with your account so we can follow up if needed.
Usage data
Our hosting infrastructure (VPS with Caddy) records standard access logs (IP address, page path, timestamp, user-agent). These logs are used for debugging and security monitoring and are not shared with third parties. Logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days.
3. How we use your data
- To provide and maintain your account and profile.
- To show you gigs, artists, and venues near you (location).
- To send transactional emails (email verification, password reset).
- To serve advertisements via Google AdMob (free plan users only).
- To process in-app subscription purchases via Apple App Store or Google Play.
- To respond to feedback you submit.
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Legal basis (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Contract — processing your email address to provide the account service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — server access logs for security and debugging.
- Consent — accessing device location and (on iOS) the advertising identifier, both of which require your explicit permission.
5. In-app subscriptions
LocalJams offers an optional ad-free subscription (“LocalJams Ad-Free”) available as an auto-renewing annual subscription at €11.99/year (or equivalent local price).
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription automatically renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.
- No refunds are provided for the unused portion of a subscription period, except where required by law.
- Subscription status is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app may require you to use the “Restore Purchases” option in Settings.
6. Third-party services
Supabase
We use Supabase (self-hosted on our VPS) for authentication and database storage. Your email address and profile data are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on our own server in the EU. We do not use Supabase Cloud.
Google AdMob
The LocalJams iOS and Android apps embed the Google Mobile Ads SDK for users on the free plan. AdMob may collect device information and advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, Android Advertising ID on Android) to serve targeted ads. Ad-free subscribers do not have the AdMob SDK activated. Apple App Store & Google Play (subscriptions)
In-app subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple (iOS) or Google (Android). LocalJams does not receive or store your payment card details. Subscription status (active or inactive) is verified on-device via StoreKit 2 (iOS) or the Google Play Billing Library (Android). Apple's privacy policy is available at apple.com/legal/privacy and Google's at policies.google.com/privacy.
Resend
We use Resend to send transactional emails. Your email address is passed to Resend solely for the purpose of delivering emails you have requested (e.g. password reset). Resend's privacy policy is available at resend.com/privacy.
7. Data retention
- Account data (email, profile) — retained until you delete your account.
- Server access logs — retained for up to 30 days, then deleted.
- Location data — never stored on our servers (processed on-device only).
- IDFA — processed by AdMob per Google's own retention schedule; not stored by LocalJams.
8. Your rights
Under GDPR (and equivalent laws in the UK and Ireland) you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data.
- Erasure (Art. 17) — request deletion of your account and all associated data. You can do this yourself at any time in the app: Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection / Restriction — object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent — withdraw location or tracking permission at any time in your device Settings.
To exercise any right (other than account deletion, which is self-service), email us at privacy@localjams.live. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie) or your local supervisory authority.
9. Cookies
The LocalJams website uses the following cookies:
- Authentication cookie (strictly necessary) — set by Supabase to keep you signed in. This cookie is required for the service to function and is exempt from consent requirements.
- Theme preference (functional) — a localStorage entry that stores your dark/light mode preference. Not a cookie; no data leaves your device.
- Google AdSense (advertising, optional) — if you accept analytics cookies, Google may set cookies to serve and measure ads. You can manage this via the Cookie Settings link in the footer.
10. Children's privacy
LocalJams is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at privacy@localjams.live and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. For material changes we will notify users via the app.
